We are pleased to announce that Brazilian High Court of Justice’s Justice Reynaldo S. da Fonseca has confirmed participation in LAWLE 2017.

Reynaldo Soares da Fonseca is Justice at the Brazilian High Court of Justice and professor at the Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA, on leave). Fonseca has a Law Degree from UFMA, several graduate courses in Law, a Masters Degree in Public Law from the Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC_SP) and is presently a PhD in Constitutional Law candidate at FADISP-SP. Justice Fonseca has received several award and recognitions for his achievements, including: II (2011), III (2012) and IV (2013) PRÊMIO CONCILIAR É LEGAL – VERTENTE JUSTIÇA FEDERAL, CONSELHO NACIONAL DE JUSTIÇA; Medalha do Mérito Eleitoral do Tribunal Regional Eleitoral – DF (2008), Medalha Santos Dumont do Ministério da Defesa – Comando da Aeronáutica (2009), Medalha Grã- Cruz do Mérito Judiciário “Milton Campos” da Seção Judiciária de Minas Gerais (2013), Medalha da Ordem do Mérito Judiciário Militar – Quadro Especial – Alta Distinção – do Superior Tribunal Militar (2014).

Prof. Pery Francisco Assis Shikida confirmed participation in LAWLE 2017

We are pleased to announce that prof. Pery Francisco Assis Shikida, Western Parana State University (Unioeste) has confirmed he will participate in LAWLE 2017.

Prof. Pery Shikida is presently Dean of International Relations at Unioeste. Economist at UFMG (1989), Master in Agricultural Economics at ESALQ/USP (1992), prof. Shikida has a PhD in Economics Applied from ESALQ/USP (1997). Post-doc in Economics at FGV/SP (2009). Visiting Scholar at Kaiserslautern Universität/Germany (2000 and 2005) and University of Wisconsin/USA (2010). Visiting Professor at Università Politecnica delle Marche/Italy (2013), University of Évora/Portugal (2015), Universidad de la Rioja/Spain (2016) and Universitatea Babes Bolyai/Romania (2016). Associate Professor at Western Parana State University (Unioeste).

Prof. Leon Victor de Queiroz Barbosa confirmed participation in LAWLE 2017

We are pleased to announce that prof. Leon Victor de Queiroz Barbosa, Federal University of Campina Grande
has confirmed he will participate in LAWLE 2017.

Leon Victor de Queiroz Barbosa is Professor of Political Science at Federal University of Campina Grande, where coordinates the area of Political Science in the department of Social Sciences. He is also deputy coordinator of the Master Program in Political Science at the same institution. As a researcher, he’s member of the Center of Legislative Studies (Federal University of Minas Gerais) and of the PRAETOR – Study Group of Judiciary, Politics and Society (Federal University of Pernambuco).

He is also the Editor of Studies of Politics Review and member of the Eletronic Review of Political Science’s editoral board. His current research focus on judicial empowerment in Latin America using Qualitative Comparative Analysis approach, financed by CNPq (National Research Council)
In 2016 Professor Barbosa was awarded a “honorable mention” in the CAPES Thesis Award for his Ph.D. Thesis, “The Silence of the Incumbents: partisan fragmentation and judicial empowerment in Brazil”. He acts on the following fields: judicial institutions, political institutions, comparative politics and quantitative methods.

Prof. Alberto Simpser Mondlak confirmed participation in LAWLE 2017

We are pleased to announce that prof. Alberto Simpser Mondlak, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, ITAM-Political Science Department
has confirmed he will participate in LAWLE 2017.

Professor Simpser’s research examines major problems in the political economy of development, including corruption, electoral manipulation, and failures of governance and democratic accountability. His work utilizes statistical, experimental, formal, and qualitative methods. Prof. Simpser joined the faculty of ITAM (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México) as Associate Professor in the fall of 2014. Previously, he worked as Assistant Professor of political science at the University of Chicago. He has been a residential Fellow at the Princeton Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance, and a National Fellow at the Hoover Institution. He is a Level II National Researcher in Mexico’s Sistema Nacional de Investigadores. Prof. Simpser holds a PhD degree in political science and an MA degree in economics from Stanford University, and a B.Sc. degree in engineering sciences from Harvard College.

Prof. Luciano Timm is the President of the Brazilian Law and Economics Association, ABDE.
